Abstract

Choice Criteria for Appliance: Vestibular, Lingual or Aligner

by Federici Canova Fabio

The choice between fixed orthodontic appliances, buccal, lingual or clear aligners depends on various factors, including the complexity of the case, the patient's aesthetic needs and personal preferences. Buccal fixed orthodontic appliances are the most common and versatile choice. They are effective for treating a wide range of orthodontic problems, from simple to complex. This type is indicated for patients who need precise control of tooth movement. However, they may be visible, which can pose a cosmetic problem for some patients. Lingual braces offer a superior aesthetic option, as they are placed on the internal surface of the teeth and therefore not visible from the outside. They are ideal for adult or adolescent patients who want discreet treatment. However, initial installation and fitting can be more complex and require advanced technical skill on the part of the orthodontist. Clear aligners represent an aesthetic and removable solution. They are suitable for patients with mild to moderate orthodontic problems. Their transparency makes them almost invisible, and the possibility of removing them facilitates oral hygiene and allows you to eat without restrictions. However, they require rigorous collaboration from the patient
