Correct treatment of gummy smiles begins with a detailed diagnosis, requiring specific treatments tailored to each classified clinical situation. Skeletal anchorage has widened the treatment possibilities for gummy smiles, but the limit between surgical and orthodontic treatment must be clearly defined. Additionally, there is a current trend to use skeletal anchorage even in cases where it is unnecessary, as simple intrusive mechanics can be successfully employed. After discussing symmetrical cases of gummy smiles, we will address the canting of the occlusal plane, where gingival exposure can be asymmetrical. We will describe how to correct this in a simple and highly predictable manner without skeletal anchorage. The goal of this course is to provide attendees with a protocol for properly managing gummy smiles, supported by numerous clinical cases, showing the necessity of miniscrews and the possibility of decreased surgical intervention. Additionally, we will discuss many orthodontic tips and tricks.
