Abstract
Orchestrating Orthodontic/Restorative Collaboration
by Zaher Abbas
The ultimate desire of the patient is to achieve maximum esthetics in a reasonable short time and with the least costs. More than a few cases will need a close collaboration between the various dental specialties in order to achieve the best results. Less than perfect situations can occur with lack of initial proper communication and planning among the various disciplines. Careful diagnosis together with the exploitation of the different experts in the field will lead to the best results. The use of best practice in diagnosis, planning and sequence of treatment can only be achieved through close and early precise planning, and execution of the treatment with cooperation of the orthodontists and the other specialists. Steps to be followed to reach this will be explained and examples to illustrate the advantages of prior communication and planning among the various specialists before the start of treatment will be presented with a discussion of its pros and cons.
