Abstract

The Restorative Finishing: Selection Criteria

by Veneziani Marco

Prosthetic finalization post orthodontic treatment requires careful evaluation of several criteria to ensure an optimal esthetic and functional result. The first key criterion is the assessment of occlusion. It is essential that the teeth are properly aligned and that the occlusion is stable to avoid future malocclusions or joint problems. Another important criterion is the assessment of the quantity and quality of residual tooth tissue. If teeth have undergone significant manipulation during orthodontics, indirect restorations, such as crowns or veneers, may be needed to restore their original form and function. In addition, periodontal health must be carefully monitored. Healthy gums are critical to the long-term success of any prosthetic restoration. The material of the prosthesis is another crucial factor. The choice between ceramic, zirconia, or composite materials depends on several factors, including the desired aesthetics, the location of the tooth to be restored, and the strength required. Materials must be biocompatible and able to replicate the natural appearance of the teeth. Collaboration between orthodontist and prosthodontist is essential. Effective communication and joint planning ensure that orthodontic treatment goals are maintained and that prosthetic finalization integrates seamlessly with the results achieved. Finally, the patient's expectations must be considered. The patient must be informed of the different options available and their respective advantages and disadvantages in order to make an informed choice. Good dialogue and individualized planning are essential to ensure patient satisfaction and long-term treatment success.
